NIEM normative and non-normative documents and other resources
This directory contains the official NIEM technical specifications, guidance, and other resources. Each resource is catalogued by its http URI, which generally incorporates its classification (specification, guidance, or resource), name or title, and version. The http URI for each resource is a URL that resolves to a directory containing the resource (some have multiple renderings) and supporting files or examples if available. NIEM http URIs may optionally use authorized abbreviations for terms to reduce extraordinary length. However, long forms are preferred for clarity.

- Specification contains normative documents that detail explicit NIEM conformance requirements such as rules, principles, definitions, formats, interfaces, etc.
- Guidance contains non-normative documents that detail best practices, how to employ particular techniques, recommendations for implementation, etc.
- Resource contains the other normative NIEM artifacts (files generally identified in specification appendices) that define formats, tool inputs, outputs, or interfaces, etc. (e.g., Model Package Description (MPD) artifacts). These resources are in standard native formats such as XML schemas, XSL stylesheets, Excel spreadsheets, OWL vocabularies, etc. In some cases, associated support files (e.g., illustrations or tables) are included with these artifacts.
